Quick Tips to Minimise Large Pores

Are You Experiencing Problems with Large Pores?

Pores are little holes in the skin. If people have naturally large pores, they might not be able to eliminate their appearance entirely. However, they can reduce the obvious appearance by regular care to keep the pores unclogged.

People with oily skin have a higher chance of having enlarged pores, because the oil will mix with dead skin cells in the pores. The result is a clog that makes the pore bigger. Besides that, if the oil is trapped by dead skin in the pores, it will oxidise to produce a blackhead. Nonetheless, with the right care and using the right skin care products, you can a clear and smooth complexion. The chances of these problems happening will be reduced.

Common Causes of Enlarged Pores

What are the Common Causes of Enlarged Pores?

The common causes of enlarged pores are excessive sebum, decreased elasticity of the skin around the pore, and increased volume of the hair follicle.

What causes these conditions? First of all, excessive oil production by the sebaceous glands will lead to oily skin. This is the cause of excessive sebum. When the skin’s elasticity decreases due to ageing, the elasticity around the pores reduce, resulting in larger pores. Lastly, each hair follicle has a pore, and when this pore gets clogged, the result is increased hair follicle volume.

Quick Tips to Minimise Large Pores

1. Use water-based products

Water-based products are suitable for people with oily skin. Using these products will prevent more oil from getting into the skin. Those with oily skin should not use oil-based products, as this will add more oil onto the skin, leading to enlarged pores.

2. Wash the face in the morning and evening

Washing the face with warm water and cleanser in the morning and evening is a good skin care habit. This practice helps to eliminate dirt from the pores, keeping them clean.

3. Use gel-based cleansers

Usually, people who have oily skin coupled with large pores can reduce the appearance of their pores by using a gel-based cleanser. For these people, it is not a good idea to use a moisturising cleanser, because it will leave residue in the pores, resulting in more oiliness.

4. Exfoliate regularly

Exfoliating is important because it removes dirt, dead skin cells and excess oil from the pores. People with oily skin should exfoliate once or twice a week, to make sure that they are not clogged up. However, please refrain from exfoliating more than twice a week. Too much exfoliating will make the skin dry. Dry skin will make the pores look bigger as well.

Salicylic acid is an ingredient to look for in exfoliating products. It is a natural acid that helps to remove stuff from the pores.

5. Apply moisturiser every day

As stated above, moisturising cleansers are not suitable for oily skin. On the other hand, after cleansing and patting the skin dry, applying a moisturising lotion would be good, because moisturisers will soften and hydrate the skin. This will enable sebum to go deeper into the skin, instead of remaining largely on the surface and clogging up the pores.

6. Use a clay mask

Applying a clay mask once or twice a week can help reduce their appearance and prevent enlarged pores, by removing oil from the pores. However, do not put the clay mask on the same day you are exfoliating, as too much going on will irritate the skin.

7. Remove makeup before going to sleep

Always remove makeup at night before going to sleep. Makeup left on overnight might mix with oil and bacteria to clog up pores. A simple way to remove makeup would be to use cleansing wipes.

8. Apply sunblock regularly

If you are going outdoors, be sure to apply sunscreen. Sun damaged skin becomes very dry. When the skin is dry, the pores will appear larger. Besides applying sunblock, you can also protect the skin from the sun by wearing a hat, or staying in the shade when the sun is strongest.

The skin produces melanin to protect itself against the sun’s strong UV rays. When too much melanin is produced, pigmentation occurs. It leads to dark patches or spots on the skin. Other causes of pigmentation include acne, skin inflammation, constant picking at the skin, hormonal changes or even selected antibiotics or medication. Although pigmentation is harmless, it is unsightly for some people, especially if it occurs on the face.

Carbon laser peel can be used to treat imperfections on the skin. It is an innovative laser resurfacing treatment that can help to smoothen skin and restore its radiance. This state-of-the-art treatment does not cause any pain or discomfort. Patients commonly only experience a minor sensation like pins and needles during the treatment.

As a leading aesthetic provider in the Klang Valley, Premier Clinic offers a wide range of aesthetic procedures, including the Carbon Laser Peel.
